Director and Specialist GP
Dr Peter Zimmermann
B Nurs, B Med, M Adv Prac Nurs (Acute), M Ed Stud, FRACGP
Dr Peter is passionate about general practice & practicing ‘slow medicine’ –> which means spending more time with patients to provide better quality of care. This model of care enables real engagement with other care providers to make sure that the GP is truly part of the primary care team – with the patient always at the centre.
Originally from Newcastle - he has served in the Army for over 20 years. He started out as a Nursing Officer before completing medicine & becoming a Medical Officer. This has included various posting localities across the country: 1st Health Support Battalion; 1st Combat Service Support Battalion; 5/7th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment; 7th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment; Army School of Health; 1st Close Health Battalion; & 1st Health Battalion. Dr Peter is still a serving Medical Officer here in Darwin, where he is the Senior Medical Officer of the 1st Health Battalion.
Dr Peter is married to Mandy and has two children – Charlie & Clara. He spends most of his free time being ‘daddy taxi’ ferrying Charlie & Clara around to various sports training + games. This is the family’s second posting to Darwin – and they intend to stay this time!
Dr Peter has special interests in Veteran’s Health (& DVA), lifestyle medicine, Women’s Health, Occupational Medicine (& WorkCover), & Military Medicine.
Specialist GP
Dr Charles Blount
MBBS, FRACGP
Providing patient centred care is one of the things Dr Blount enjoys most about general practice. He finds the best outcomes for patients are achieved when they feel their concerns have been heard. Often this is therapeutic in itself, but furthermore he believes it’s the first step to enabling the GP to truly understand the patient’s circumstances. This sets the conditions for provision of the best multidisciplinary care during the patient’s time of need.
Raised in Tasmania, he signed up to the Army in Hobart during medical school and upon completion of his residency was posted to the 2nd General Health Battalion, 1st Close Health Battalion & 1st Health Battalion as a full time Defence member. Nowadays he continues to serve as an active reservist and additionally works for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
In his spare time, Charlie is found in the gym, camping, pursuing further study and hanging out with his partner, Chloe, and heavily malting sheepdog, Sybil.
Charlie has special interests in emergency medicine, diet, sports medicine, paediatric medicine and women’s health.
